# llms.txt is bullshit. Do it anyway. Source: https://revductive.com/newsletter/003-llms-txt-do-it-anyway Summary: Issue 003: llms.txt does nothing for SEO and I built one anyway. Two tools I'd buy, the CMS I left behind, and three things to do this week. Every page, and the topic files: https://revductive.com/llms.txt The newsletter Once or twice a week. 1 hot take, 2 tool suggestions, 3 best practices. [Newsletter](https://revductive.com/newsletter) No. 003 No. 003 September 15, 2026 Best practices and tool suggestions pulled out of my week. Usually that's calls with clients and prospects. 01 / The hot take Broke it and fixed it on my own site last week The SEO world is selling llms.txt as the way to get your company into ChatGPT responses. Ahrefs pulled the server logs on 137,000 sites in May. About 28% of them publish one. **97% of those files got zero requests that month**, from a bot or a person. Google says in its own documentation that Search doesn't use them. I built one anyway (for a different reason). And learned quite a bit about how poorly AI can interact with our websites. > No AI is going to find these files on its own. But it may lead to better answers for people that send it there. Me, in the post about it Last week I put up [a page called “Point your AI at this page,”](https://revductive.com/for-your-ai) with call-to-actions to my whole site as one text file. People are going to ask AI questions about us anyway, I’m trying to make the experience more accurate and valuable. I then learned Claude and ChatGPT’s web fetch tool cap how much content is grabbed **more significantly than I expected.** So I broke it into multiple files. One core file with critical info, llms.txt as the index pointing at everything else, a markdown copy of each page, and a line at the top of every file referencing the other sections. Ultimately, providing the best “browsing” experience I can for the AI so it can provide the best answers with minimal work. This isn’t for SEO. Nothing is crawling these files (not AI or Google). The idea here is to feed AI more context when someone points them to this page. > I have no idea if this will be effective. But if it generates a couple of better AI answers a week, it was worth the time with Claude to build it. Me, LinkedIn post about it [Read the full post →](https://revductive.com/blog/llms-txt-is-bullshit-do-it-anyway) 02 / The stack Two to adopt, one to leave behind ## Two tools I used on real work this week. One thing I'd stop using. ![Boardy](https://revductive.com/_astro/boardy.ukv4vuVb_kihTJ.webp) Adopt 01 Free (adding products) ### Boardy Boardy is an AI that makes intros. You talk to it about what you do and who you want to meet, and it goes through its network and books the call. It connects directly to your calendar. **I’ve probably had 30-40 calls in the last two months from it.** I wouldn’t go into it with the intention of booking sales calls/demos. But if you go into it with the intention of just meeting other people doing interesting things, you could come out with product feedback, referral relationships, or intros that are extremely helpful. [boardy.ai →](https://boardy.ai) ![Firecrawl](https://revductive.com/_astro/firecrawl.B5vTV7vg_6yGcN.webp) Adopt 02 $0 or $16 / mo for most ### Firecrawl Firecrawl turns a web page into clean markdown for an AI. It might sound like Claude/ChatGPT already does this, but if you’ve gotten annoyed with any AI struggling to get good information (or complete information) from some websites, read on. (catch the theme this week?) At the moment, it’s **the single best tool I’ve found to scrape the information I need from most websites**, especially ones difficult for AI tools to access. How to use it: Just sign-up and add the MCP to your favorite AI tool. It’s used pretty frequently on a number of my daily Cowork scheduled actions. [firecrawl.dev →](https://firecrawl.dev) ![WordPress](https://revductive.com/_astro/wordpress.CdKvNU9z_ZQWRWr.webp) Drop / replace Not since July ### WordPress (or whatever CMS you’re on) I’m not anti-CMS. (A CMS is WordPress or Squarespace, for example) And I’ve built plenty of sites on them. But every site for the foreseeable future for me will be built with Claude Code updating a GitHub repo using Astro. When I rebuilt my site I expected to spend a weekend learning about the most current WordPress plugins. After building my spec doc for what I wanted in Notion, I asked Claude about the best way to build it out and that’s when I discovered Astro. Astro isn’t a CMS but more a framework you can use to organize a site. Claude updated my spec with the technical details. Now I just chat with Claude Code to update my website, it updates the GitHub repo, and Hostinger automatically deploys the update. **No joke, I’ve added whole site sections floating in the pool.** Replacing it with Astro and GitHub, with Claude Code doing the updates. A workflow you can run from your phone. [I built my site in Astro. Here’s how to copy it →](https://revductive.com/blog/build-your-site-in-astro-and-let-ai-run-it) 03 / The work Do these before buying anything ## Three things I'd do this week 01 ### What does AI actually find about your company? This is fast, free, and almost no one is doing it. There are hundreds of new AEO tools (basically AI search optimization) and I’ve seen people get roped in by those without even testing things manually. Pretend to be your prospect, ask a variety of different AI tools about your product and market, review the results. Quick tip: **Create fresh AI accounts.** Your AI account’s own memory about you will corrupt the results. > Every AI that read my home page completely missed the most important part! Me, after checking my own [How I rebuilt mine →](https://revductive.com/blog/llms-txt-is-bullshit-do-it-anyway) 02 ### Pick smaller stuff with AI. When people tell me what they want to do with AI, it’s usually something big. AI SDR. AI support. **I tell them to pick one small task, start there, and keep adding.** > If you can't describe it in excruciatingly detailed terms, there's no way an AI is going to do it the way that you expect it to be done. Me, catching up with a colleague from a prior role [Think smaller. The AI SDR is the worst idea. →](https://revductive.com/blog/think-smaller-the-ai-sdr-is-the-worst-idea) 03 ### Build a sales process before you hire the SDR. Someone told me they wanted to hire an SDR to cold call 20 hours a week. I told them that I don’t think they’re ready yet. An SDR usually has one or two years of sales experience at most, and without a documented process and tooling you’re asking them to invent it (which they’ve never done). Same thing one level up. Founders hire their first AE and then wonder why nobody can tell them what’s going on in the pipeline. That rep has never set up a CRM, automated pipeline processes to capture data, or built a dashboard. **They closed business, which is what you hired them to do.** > I usually don't suggest bringing somebody like that in unless you have the process documented and tooling built out. Me, on a discovery call [Scope the human work first →](https://revductive.com/blog/scope-the-human-work-first) Thanks for reading. If you’ve got an llms.txt because somebody told you to, maybe repurpose it in the way I shared above. Worst case scenario if it does nothing for SEO/AEO, **it could give the prospects already on your site better answers.** Kevin The newsletter This one went out in September 2026. Get the next one first. Once or twice a week. Quotes from the calls, the tools I would buy, and what I would do this week. No spam. Unsubscribe in one click. ## Generate revenue. Subtract everything else. Leads slip through cracks, reporting is a mess, and growth feels stuck. You’re not missing tools. You’re missing the system that ties them together.
